Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the spring property, etc. of a Cu-Ni-Sn alloy in its manufacturing process, by heating the alloy into a prescribed two-phase balancing temperature region to anneal the alloy before its cold working to change the structure of the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: In manufacturing an alloy comprising 3W25wt% of Ni, 3W10wt% of Sn and the rest of Cu and unavoidable impurities, the alloy is heated into a two- phase balancing region in the range of 650W750°C of the ternary equilibrium state diagram of the alloy so that the alloy is annealed before cold working. After the cold working, age-hardening is effected if necessary. Because of the annealing, the second phase of the matrix of the Cu-Ni-Sn alloy is finely dispersed to greatly enhance its mechanical strength, especially its spring limit value. The shaping properties of the alloy such as the bending property are almost equal to those of a conventional similar alloy.
