Abstract
PURPOSE: To crack heavy paraffin and to obtain high-quality pitch for a binder, by adding silica-alumina-based granules, etc. as a catalyst for catalytic cracking to petroleum having a high content of heavy paraffin, followed by heat-treating the retroleum by two-stage process at specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Residue oil of distillation of petroleum having a high content of heavy paraffin, e.g., residue oil of distillation of paraffinic crude oil, etc. is preferably preheated to 380W430°C. The residue oil is heat-treated in the presence of not less than 1wt% preferably 3W10wt% granules of silica-alumina-based or zeolite- based granules, etc., as a catalyst for catalytic cracking, at 380W430°C, preferably under atmosphere of inert gas pressure or hydrogen pressure not higher than 50kg/ cm2 qauge pressure. The catalyst is then removed, and volatile ingredients are removed by heat-trement at 450W500°C, to give the disired pitch. The catalyst is packed in a pipe, etc., kept at 380W430°C by heating, and preferably brought into contact with the petroleum.
