Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the occurrence of breakout to be forecast by supervising the vibration condition of a mold which is excited by the basic frequency of continuous casting and detecting the change in the amplitude or spectrum intensity in the specific frequency band other than the basic frequency.
CONSTITUTION: A mold 14 is excited via a shaft 20 and a table 22 by the combination of a motor 16 and an eccentric cam 18, to prevent the burn on between the frozen shell and a mold copper plate. Further, powder is charged into the mold and if the lubrication thereof becomes poor, burn-on occurs and the vibtating condition of the mold changes. That is, the sine waves ideal in the (z) direction cause a change in the amplitudes in the (x), (y) directions or the spectrum intensity at the specific frequency in the (z) direction. On the other hand, when a corner crack occurs, molten steel spouts from the frozen shell and said vibrating condition is changed by the impact force upon the mold copper plate. Hence, the vibrating conditions in the xWz directions of the mold are supervised by respective vibrometers 34, 32, 30 and are passed through respective direction band pass devices 40 etc., from which the signals of the specific frequency region alone are taken out. These pass through a spectrum analyzer 42 and a comparator 44 and when they exceed reference levels, an alarm is emitted.
