Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the response of a detector by increasing the diameter of a smoke entry side by forming a smoke sensitive area in the stepped or conical continuous hole of a focusing block that has an elliptic column reflective surface formed of a transparent body. CONSTITUTION:An elliptic pole is formed of a transparent body and the 1st reflector 13 is formed on its elliptic pole surface 13a to constitute focusing block 4. Primary light emitted from light emission element 5, when smoke enters smoke sensitive area 10, is scattered in all directions and the scattered light contained in the plane perpendicular to focal axis 14 of the light is all reflected geometrically by elliptic column surface 13a and paraboloid 17 of revolution to reach photodetector 6. Hole 21 forming the above-mentioned smoke sensitive area 10 is concaved so that its inner diameter varies stepwise or continuously like a cone, and the smoke entry side is wide in diameter. As a result, the photodetection efficiency is the same as the above-mentioned cylindrical hole and intake 22 through which smoke enters is large in diameter. Consequently, the smoke can easily enter and then the response speed of sensing is improved.
