Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a glass material consisting of ZnF2 and ZnCl2 and capable of manufacturing an optical glass fiber showing no deliquescence and havig a transmission window in the 2-6mum wavelength region in which it was impossible to utilize an optical glass fiber formerly. CONSTITUTION:This glass mateial for an optical glass fiber consists of 60-94mol% ZnF2 and 40-6mol% ZnCl2. Using this glass material an optical glass fiber showing no deliquescence and having a window with a small loss especially in the 2- 6mum wavelength region can be manufactured. The infrared absorption end of the fiber is extended to such a longer wavelength as 10mum.
