Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently remove an alkali catalyst from a polyether-polyol containing an alkali catalyst, by contacting the polyether-polyol with 'sampi'.
CONSTITUTION: The alkali catalyst comtained in a polyether-polyol is removed by contacting the polyether-polyol containing an alkali catalyst with 'sampi' in the presence of water. In this operation, the sampi having the adsorbed alkali catalyst is easily separated from the polyether-polyol within a short time, for example, by filtration, and, in addition, the water added to the system can be removed by the sampi. The term 'sampi' is the generic name of clay minerals having a number of active hydroxyl groups on the surface. A preferred sampi which can be used is one obtained by grinding a digged, raw sampi ore into powder or a particles and drying them. The polyether-polyol which can be used is one obtained by adding an active hydrogen-containing compound to an alkylene oxide in the presence of an alkali catalyst.
