Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce pressure loss in catalyst layers and to enhance the activity per unit volume, by a method wherein the titled catalyst is composed of a structural body having many connecting fluid passages which are partitioned by thin walls and contg. one or more cpds. of elements selected from the group of Fe, Cr, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The titled catalyst is formed of a desired structural body having honeycomb or pipe shapes and having, on the substrate fluid passages. Passing from the fluid inlet to outlet and partitioned by thin walls. The structural body contains cpds. of at least one of elements selected from the group of Fe, Cr, Mn, Co, Zn, Cu, Mg, Al, Ca, and Ni. This catalyst is suited to dehydrogenation reaction of mono- olefins to conjugated dienes, or dehydrogenation reaction of alkylated aromatic cpd. to alkenylated aromatic cpd. The catalyst is also suited to dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene. The catalyst enhances the activity, compacts the catalytic layers, controls side reactions, and enhances the selectivity of the object cpd.
