Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the hydrogen overvoltage at the electrolysis of alkali metal halogenide aqueous solution, by electroplating a fixed cathode substrate by using a fixed plating bath containing a specified flocculant.
CONSTITUTION: At least one face of cathode substrate composed of titanium or titanium alloy, is electroplated by using plating bath selected among iron plating bath, cobalt plating bath and iron cobalt alloy plating bath containing one kind or more of nonionic high molecular, cationic high molecular, inorganic flocculant and desired cathode plate is obtained. Nonionic high molecular flocculant is polysaccharides (for example, starch, dextrin). The iron plating bath is 0.1W1.7mol/l ferrous ion concentration, 2.5≤pH≤6.0 and the cobalt plating bath is 0.3W1mol/l cobalt ion concentration, 2.5≤pH≤6.0 and then, the iron cobalt alloy plating bath is 0.1W2mol/l ferrous ion and cobalt ion in total, 2.5≤pH≤6.0. Electroplating is carried out by blowing nitrogen gas in the plating bath continuously.
