Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely prevent the generation of ear cracks even in the material to be rolled in the breadth direction C, without necessity of improvement of the installation, by first applying the roll forming work to give a required light rolling reduction to the material, by turning this material by 90 degrees and by applying the broadside rolling work only to its skin layer with a light rolling reduction, and further, by performing the ordinary broadside rolling work.
CONSTITUTION: In order to prevent generation of the spread of the material (slab) in the breadth direction (direction C) during performing the rolling work in the longitudinally elongating direction (direction L), the material is treated as follows. That is, the roll forming work for this material in the direction L is regulated to give only ≤10mm light rolling reduction for obtaining an exact thickness necessary to calculate the broadside rolling condition; hereby, the excess spread to be generated during the roll forming work is prevented; soon after that, the material is turned by 90 degrees and is subjected to the broadside rolling work. This broadside rolling work is carried out as follows; several passes of the broadside rolling are performed so as to give ≤10mm light rolling reduction, and next, the ordinary broadside rolling work at full capacity is performed to obtain the specified breadth and the specified large thickness.
