Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to read bar codes with an extremely simple constitution by employing the constitution that only measures the pulse width of a bar display detection signal as to an information recording medium and then by making a decision on the measurement.
CONSTITUTION: When bar detection signal DB of pulse width that corresponds to bar display width is supplied from a photoelelctric detector to AND gate 57 in time division mode, gate 57 outputs pulse signal P as much as a value obtained by dividing the pulse width of signal DB by the constant period time of clock pulses ϕ. This signal P is supplied to and counted by counters 51 and 42. Then, counter 51 outputs signal C3 when detecting thin-width bar display and counter 52 outputs signal C6 when detecting thick-width bar display. Signal C6 is supplied to FF59 and output signal C6F of FF59 is a decision signal for the width of bar display; when signal C6F is "1", signal DB is found to be thick width and when "0", its is discriminated as thin width. This signal C6F is stored in shift register 53 and then output via gate 62.
