Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent radioactive substances or radiant rays from propagating in an optical cable by providing a bulkhead that contains pulverized lead as a filler at part of the optical cable.
CONSTITUTION: After the sheath part of optical cable 1 is removed, cable conductor part 4 of the optical fiber is caked by being impregnated with setting resin 2 that contains a great amount of pulverized lead metal as a filler, thereby keeping it airtight. As the setting resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, etc., should be used. Then, it is externally covered with a thermally-shrinkable plastic tube or cylindrical lead pipe. Radioactive substances are stopped completely at the part of the bulkhead and the transmission of radiant rays is also stopped at this part.
