Consequently, even when the running direction of a magnetic tape is reversed, unloading a tape cartridge temporarily makes the projecting piece 18 of the engaging arm strike the restriction plate 48' without fail to push it back to the original position.Therefore, when the tape cartridge is unloaded temporarily and then loaded again for initial operation, a capstan shaft 40 and a pinch roller 24 press against each other without fail, so the magnetic tape runs first in one predetermined direction.
