Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent corrosion fatigue or stress corrosion cracks in a cooling process after rivetting even when rivets of lower quality material are used, by applying R- fillet at the neck below the countersunk head of a rivet.
CONSTITUTION: A countersunk rivett is formed by applying 0.1W0.3R fillet previously at the neck below the countersunk head. When such countersunk rivet is used for revetting, the generation of a notch is prevented at the neck, and the high temperature cracks are not generated in the cooling process after rivetting. Therefore we can utilize high clamping strength of rivets of lower quality applying for high stressed strong members with much reduction of costs.
