PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption for the terminal of a digital subscriber and to enable to terminate, by discontinuing the digital communication when a hook is released for the terminal of digital subscriber under a noncommunication state. CONSTITUTION:In case a hook switch 9 is released for a long time in a noncommunication state, a control circuit 12 makes a transmitting circuit 15 a noncommunication state and generates alarm tone to a handset 10 or a speaker 11 with a display 8 via an interface circuit 13. A terminating request given from another subscriber in a hook release state is supplied to the circuit 12 via the circuit 13 since a receiving circuit 16 is in a working mode. The circuit 12 makes the release of hook ineffective and makes an A/D converting part of the circuit 13 working state to supply ringing tone to the speaker 11. Confirming the display of alarm on a display device 8, the subscriber pushes a button switch 14 or turns on the switch 9 and then turns off the switch 9 again. Thus the circuit 12 turns off the alarm display and transmits an answer signal.
