Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any separation of the active material which is packed into the end of a lead base body expanded into a lathlike shape, by deforming the saw- bladelike end of the lead body into a straightened end. CONSTITUTION:A lathlike sheet 3' which is made of lead or a lead alloy and is subjected to expanding work is sent to a device 5, by which the sheet 3' is cut into given dimensions and the saw-bladelike end of the sheet 3' is made into a straightened end 12. The device 5 consists of a fixed part and a movable part. The device 5 has protruding parts 9 and 9', which match lath meshes located on the both sides of a cutter 8 used for cutting the sheet 3 into given dimensions. The protruding parts 9, which have a pentagonal-pyramid shape with crest lines, serve for deforming the saw-bladelike end of the cut sheet 3' into a straightened end. The protruding parts 9', which have a tetragonal pyramid shape with a base surface of the same shape as the lath mesh, serve for preventing the deformations of the lath meshes other than the lath meshes of the end of the sheet 3'.
