Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform accurate lognitudianl and transverse waves detection by permitting radiation of a longitudinal wave and a transverse wave in the position within the same hole. CONSTITUTION:When a rigid body 4 is moved in an X direction to the extent of not allowing the same to collide against a holed diaphragm 5, the force in the X direction is acted upon the hole wall via the water in the hole, by which S waves (transverse waves) are propagated in the hole axis direction. Next, when the rigid body 4 is moved in the X direction and is collided against the diaphragm 5, the diaphragm 5 moves impulsively and a sharp pressure change is generated in the hole, thereby propagating P waves (longitudinal waves) in the direction of the hole axis as well. With such constitution, the selective function of the radiation of mainly the P waves and the radiation of the S waves are provided by controlling the moving range of the body 4. Further, if the moving direction of the rigid body is made conversely in the -X direction, only the S waves invert and the P waves do not invert and therefore the checking of the waves is easily accomplished.
