Abstract

PURPOSE: to reduce tool changing time in a multiple spindle machine tool equipped with a plurality of machining units disposed around a feed shaft, by selectively operating a plurality of differet working units with a single feed mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: A feed shaft 6 is driven by a servomotor to lower a selector engaging plate 26. Only a machining unit 13a is lowered by engaging the engaging projection 27a of the engaging plate 26 with the engaging groove 28a formed in the engaging arm 20a of the machining unit 13a among a plurality of machining units 13a, 13b, 13c and 13d disposed around the feed shaft 6 to apply the predetermined machining to a workpiece 40 with a drill 15 attached to the machining unit 13a. During the operation of the machining unit 13a, the respective engaging arms 20b, 20c and 20d of the rest of the machining units are not engaged with the corresponding projections 27b, 27c and 27d of the selector engaging plate 26, because the flange of a holder plate 32 is engaged with the holding grooves 36 of the engaging arms 20b, 20c and 20d thereby the rest of the machining units are retained at the respective upper positions.
