Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer efficiently and safely, by coating a scale preventing agent on the inner surfaces or like of polymerization vessels and at the same time providing an unfully charged polymerization vessels, in carrying out the continuous suspension polymerization of a vinyl chloride monomer by using a plurality of connected polymerization vessels. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl chloride monomer or its mixture with a monomer copolymerizable therewith is continuously suspension-polymerized in an aqueous medium containing a suspending agent by using a plurality of connected polymerization vessels 2, 2 etc. In this suspension polymerization, a polymer scale preventing agent, e.g., orthophosphate or colloidal silica, is previously coated on the inner surfaces of the vessels 2, or a polymerization material 1 to which the scale preventing agent has previously been added is fed into a polymerization vessel 2, from which the reaction suspension is transferred sequentially to subsequent polymerization vessels 2. During the transfer the monomer is polymerized. Moreover, this polymerization is carried out so that part of the vessels 2 are in a fully charged state without remaining vapor phases and the other vessels are in an unfully charged state established, for example, by providing a tank 6 for forming a vapor phase.
