Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a rolling mill from breakage troubles due to an overload, by fixing a tapered segmental thrust piece between a roll chock casing and a screw down member, by releasing the shut-up condition of a rolling roll with a small working force, or by making a pin shear off.
CONSTITUTION: A tapered segmental thrust piece 13 is fixed with a retainer band 12 between a roll chock casing 2 and a seat metal 7 of a reducing screw 3; and the retainer band 12 is fixed through a shear pin with a bolt fixing band 16. If an abnormal excess load is impressed during the rolling work, the shear pin set in the bolt fixing band 16 is sheared off so that a screw driving system and a stand are prevented from the excess load. When the shut-up condition of the roll is to be released, a bolt 15 is loosened and the retainer band 12 is turned outward around a hinge; hereby, a clearance is formed between the tapered segmental thrust piece 13 and the retainer band 12 so that the tapered segmental thrust piece 13 is released from the restraint. As a result, a clearance is formed between the seat metal 7 and a base metal 10 so that the roll is released from the shut-up condition.
