Abstract

PURPOSE:To expand the dynamic range during measurement of absorbancy with simple constitution by displacing the light guide exit end in the liquid to be measured which allows propagation of light source light and detecting light absorbancy according to the rate of displacement and the quantity of detection of transmitted light. CONSTITUTION:A moving plate 4 provided with a rack 4A meshed with a pinion 7 driven by a motor 6 moves and the exit end of the light guide 3 in the liquid 10 to be measured put in a vessel 9 by a light source 1, light guide 3, etc. which are in one body with the driving plate 4 displaces. The quantity of the light from the light source 1 transmitted through the liquid by propagating in the guide 3 is detected by a photodetector 13. According to the detected value of this photodetector 13 and the rate of displacement of the exit end of the light guide 3 through an encoder 11, a data analyzing device 12 calculates and determines the true absorbancy of the liquid 10. The highly accurate light absorbancy measurement is accomplished over a wide dynamic range by continuously changing the photometric optical path length with the simple constitution.
