Abstract

PURPOSE:An oxidation-resistant chelate resin having improved adsorptivity and oxidation resistance and being simple in production prepared by subjecting a chelate resin to halogenation treatment. CONSTITUTION:A chelate resin is contacted with a halogen preferably under an atmospheric or elevated pressure at -20-200 deg.C. As the halogen used in the halogenation, there is employed fluorine, chlorine, bromine or mixture thereof. But, chorine is particularly preferred. As the solvent, there can be mentioned water, nitrobenzene, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride. But, among these, water is particularly preferred. The present chelate resin, which is prepared by halogenating a chelate resin, is excellent in oxidation resistance and substantially the same in chelate-forming capacity as compared with commercial chelate resins. Therefore, this chelate resin is useful for controlling a conversion of Cr<6+> into Cr<3+> to the lowest possible degree and for removing contaminant cations present in a solution containing an oxidizing substance.
