Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the rapid discharge characteristic of a battery having a pasted negative plate made of cadmium oxide, by restricting the porosity of the negative plate to a given range. CONSTITUTION:A sintered nickel positive plate 1, a pasted negative plate 2 made of cadmium oxide, and a separator 3 prepared from a non-woven cloth made of polyamide resin are rolled into a coil, thus an assembled element being formed. Thus formed assembled element is installed in a case 4, before electrolyte is poured into the case 4. A sealing plate 5 to which a positive lead plate 6 is welded by spot welding is placed over the case 4, and the opening end of the case 4 is caulked with a gasket 7 interposed between the case 4 and the plate 6, and the whole constitutes a sealed nickel-cadmium storage battery. The negative plate 2 is formed by applying a paste made up of cadmium oxide, a binding agent and the like to a perforated steel plate, and drying the plate 2 with the paste. Here, the dried paste should be pressed so as to adjust its porosity to in the range of 40-60%.
