Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of image quality due to a change of a carrier with the passage of time by replenishing a toner previously mixed with a carrier in the average ratio between carrier and toner consumed per one copy by development. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder is mixed with resin to form a fine magnetic carrier having 10-40mum average particle size, and this carrier is mixed with triboelectrically charging toner particles in 100:(2-20) mixing ratio. The resulting developer is magnetically held on the surface of a developing member set in a developing vessel to develop a latent image on a recording body. At this time, the consumption of the carrier is restricted to <=20%, and a replenishing toner having <=20wt% carrier content is replenished. Thus, a little carrier is consumed, and a little fresh carrier is replenished, so the developer in the developing device is always kept at a constant level.
