Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled copolyester that is made by copolymerizing a small amount of polyalkylene glycol with polyethylene terephthalate, thus being suitably used as an injection molding material, because of its high crystallization speed.
CONSTITUTION: The copolyester is composed of the acid component containing more than 90mol% terephthalic acid residue and of the diol component containing 98W99.999mol% of ethylene glycol residue and 2W1.001mol% of polyalkylene glycol residue with an average molecular weight of 4,000W20,000 and a carbon to oxygen ratio of 2W45. For example, terephthalic acid or its dimethyl ester is esterified or ester-interchanged with ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol in the presence of a manganese catalyst and the polycondensation reaction is effected using an antimony catalyst to produce the objective polyester.
