Abstract
PURPOSE: To form an article excellent in mechanical strength in a compression molding process for producing the captioned annular ring having undulations on the outer circumference, by employing as the prepreg materials a combination of a prepreg comprising continuous fibers with a prepreg comprising discontinuous fibers.
CONSTITUTION: As a fibrous reinforcing material use is made of the continuous fibers oriented in one direction or orthogonal directions, which is impregnated with a thermosetting resin, and it is then semi-cured to produce the prepreg (a), and as another fibrous reinforcing material use is made of the discontinuous fibers having about 0.25W4 inches in length in a mat form, which is similarly treated to the former to produce the prepreg (b). After said prepreg (a) has been provided with slits on opposite sides, it is wound on the outer circumference of an inner mold 1, then thereon said prepreg (b) is wound, and this procedure is repeated for required time to form a prepreg layer 4. Then, the prepreg layer is heated and pressed between the inner mold 1 and an outer mold 2 to obtain the fiber reinforced plastic annular ring. (The reference numeral 3 designates an outer frame).
