Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst capable of stably purifying waste gases even when air-fuel ratio is varied by allowing a ternary element catalyst composition consisting of Ce, Fe, P, containing a specific ratio of Pt, Rh, and Pd, to be carried on the surface of a catalyst carrier in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst carrier is dipped in a catalyst solution prepared from an aqueous medium in which Ce and Fe as needed are dissolved and to which a nitric acid solution of dinitrodiamino-platinum, a palladium-containing aqueous solution, and phosphoric acid as needed are added, dried at 120-180 deg.C, and then calcined at 250-600 deg.C. Then the catalyst carrier so treated is further dipped in a rhodium-containing aqueous solution, dried, and then calcined likewise. Thus, a high performance ternary element catalyst, containing 1-20g (atomic gram per 1l of catalyst) Ce, 0-20g Fe, 0.05-0.8g Pt, 0.02-0.3g Pd, 0.05-0.3g Rh, and 0- 0.08g P, in a proportion of 5:(1-5) (by weight) Pt: Rh and a proportion of 1: (0.2-5) (by weight) Pt:Pd, can be obtained.
