Abstract

PURPOSE: A yeast containing the titled substance is cultured in the presence of an agent that acts on the oxidative phosphorylation system in vivo to release the coupling between the oxidation-reduction reaction in the terminal electron transport system and the synthetic reaction of adenocine triphosphate, thus collecting the titled substance.
CONSTITUTION: A yeast capable of producing coenzyme Q10, which belongs to Candida or Torulopsis, is cultured in the presence of an agent that acts on the oxidative phosphorylation system in vivo to release the coupling between the oxidation-reduction reaction in the terminal electron transport system and the synthetic reaction of adenosine triphosphate. The agent is, e.g., 2,4-dinitrophenol, 2,4,6-trinitrophenol or quinacrine hydrochloride. The cultivation is conducted in a general- purpose medium under usual conditions and coenzyme Q10 is isolated and purified by usual methods.
