Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat-resistant, flame-resistant rigid foam, by employing a modified polyether-polyol having a catalytic activity for isocyanate trimerization in the production of modified polyisocyanurate foams.
CONSTITUTION: A polyether-polyol in which part of the active hydrogen atoms of the terminal hydroxyl groups are replaced with an alkali or alkaline earth metal, is produced, for example, by adding as a catalyst an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide to an organic compound having at least two active hydrogen groups, e.g., ethylene glycol, and, after heat and vacuum treatment, addition-polymerizing the resulting alkylene oxide. Next, a modified polyether-polyol having a catalytic activity for isocyanate trimerization is prepared by treating the above-produced product with a monochloroacetic acid alkali metal salt in the absence of water. The modified polyisocyanurate foam of the purpose is obtained by employing this compound as a modifier.
