Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a remedy for hypertension having improved hypotensive action, by using a specific propanol derivative or a salt thereof as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A remedy for hypertension, prepared by using a propanol derivative of formula I [R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is group of formula II (R3 is phenyl, methylphenyl, etc.) or formula III (R4 is H or OH; R5 is halogenophenyl or 2-oxobenzimidazolin-1-yl)] or a pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof as an active constituent, and formulated into an oral drug, e.g. a tablet, pill or powder, or an injection. The dose of the remedy is usually 0.05W50mg/kg a day, and the compound of formula I is well known as a central nervous system depressant.
