Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately replenish a developer by detecting the presence or not of the passage of the replenishing port for the developer discharge by a replenishing means for the developer. CONSTITUTION:A replenishing roller 8 as a relenishing means is provided within a hopper 6, in opposition to a replenishing port 7, so that the developer is successively dropped and discharged through the port 7 by the revolution of this roller 8. In order to detect the presence or not of this developer, a detecting means constituted of a light emitting element 10 and a photodetector 12 such as photodiode provided in opposition to this and connected to a control circuit 11 is provided in the port 7. When no discharging of the developer is carried out in spite of the revolution of the roller 8, the control circuit 11 sends a signal to the driving source of an agitator 13 to rotate the agitator 13 which in turn collapses the cohesion of the developer, so that the developer is discharged at every fixed rate through the port 7.
