Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the dispersibility of a binder and increase the uniformity of briquets by a method wherein the washings of the deteriorated catalyst used for recovering a mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid is added to the binder, when briquetting sludge or the like.
CONSTITUTION: When briquetting the sludge, scale, dust or the like generated from the production of stainless steel, the washings of the deteriorated catalyst used in a device for recovering the mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid is added to the binder used for briquetting. While the binder contains lignisulfonic acid excellent in caking property and dispersibility as a main constituent, the washings contains an aromatic carboxylic acid having the hydrophilic carboxyl group. In addition, the washings contain also an electrolyte such as Na2SO4 which stabilizes the dispersibility of the binder. Accordingly, the dispersibility and fluidity of the binder are enhanced and such treatments as incineration or the like can be unnecessitated.
