Abstract

PURPOSE:To enlarge an effective luminous area by scattering apertures over the whole area of a faceplate and providing a black mask type phosphor screen over the area included in a deflection angle of 80 deg. or less formed by beams passing through the whole area of a shadow mask principal face and the deflection center. CONSTITUTION:A number of apertures 13 are scattered over the whole area of the faceplate of a hat type shadow mask 12 and adhered to a mask frame 10 in the peripheral surface of a skirt area 14. A black matrix type phosphor screen 15 is provided at the bombardment area of electron beam which passes through the space included in a deflection angle theta (theta<=80 deg.) formed by beams passing through the whole area of the principal face of the shadow mask 12 and the deflection center P. This can enlarge an effective luminous area without causing any damage at the boundary area between the principal face and skirt when the shadow mask 12 is molded by press operation.
