Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove black smoke as well as HC and CO at the same time by providing the Diesel engine with a ceramic body having a multiple of parallel through holes formed therein which are closed at alternate entrances and at alternate exits thereof and have catalyzer carried at the entrance and exit portions thereof. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic body 3 has a multiple of parallel through holes 2 which are defined by thin ceramic walls 1 thereof. Exits and entrances of the through holes 2 are alternately closed by closing ceramic substance 5 so that exhaust gas introduced therein through the entrances 6 passes through the thin ceramic walls 1 and thereafter discharged from the exits 8. Oxidation catalyzer 10 is disposed either at the exit portions or at the entrance portions so that fine particles of black smoke are removed from exhaust gas from the Diesel engine when the gas passes through the thin ceramic wall 1 and HC and CO in the exhaust gas are oxidized by the oxidation catalyzer 10 and removed from the gas thereby.
