Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a recording material which is capable of absorbing a recording liquid rapidly, producing clear printed dots and being used for ink jet recording in a favorable manner by providing on a substrate a recording-liquid receiving layer which comprises powdered silica dispersed in a resin soluble in nonaqueous solvents. CONSTITUTION:The powdered silica (silicate mineral having an average particle size of not larger than about 3mu, and being preferably porous) and the nonaqueous solvent-soluble resin (e.g., polyvinyl butyral) with a weight ratio of about 20/1- 1/10 are mixed and dispersed into an organic solvent (e.g., ethanol) to prepare a coating material. The coating material is coated on the substrate such as paper in an amount about of 1-10g/m<2> to form the recording-liquid receiving layer, thereby obtaining the recording material. Said powdered silica may be used with a particulate inorganic pigment (e.g., kaolin, diatomaceous earth, etc.) mixed thereto.
