Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester of high polymerization degree, low carboxyl group content, by reacting a linear saturated polyester with a specific proportion of bisoxazine compound in the molten polyester.
CONSTITUTION: One tenth to ten (0.1W10)wt%, pref., 0.3W3wt% of a bisoxazine compound represented by the formula, wherein D is a bivalent organic group, n is 0W1 and R1W12 are monovalent orgaic groups, is added to a linear saturated polyester which has a limiting viscosity of at least 0.3, when measured in o-chlorophenol at 35°C and in which at least 50% of the terminal groups are carboxy groups, such as polytetramethylene terephthalate, and the resulted mixture is reacted at a temperature higher than the m.p. of the polyester and lower than 320°C for 30secW 60min.
