Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to prolong the life of a Pd catalyst and circulate the catalyst efficiently for use in obtaining the titled compound by the reaction of an acyclic conjugated diolefin with water, in the presence of the Pd catalyst, by using monodentate and bidentate phosphines in specific amounts respectively.
CONSTITUTION: An acyclic conjugated diolefin is reacted with water in a solvent, in the presence of (bi)carbonate ions, Pd or a Pd compound, and phosphines, to give a n-alkadienol. As the phosphines, a monodentate phosphine is used in an amount of 6 or more moles based on 1 gram atom Pd and a bidentate phosphine expressed by formula I [R1 is H, CH3, halogen, cyano, etc.; R2 is 1W8C hydrocarbon; A is -(CH2)n-(n is an integer 1W4), formula II, etc.; B is formula III, -CN, etc.] in an amount of 0.3W3 moles based on 1 gram atom Pd. USE: An intermediate for a synthetic resin modifier, e.g. a plasticizer, an agricultural chemical, a medicine or a perfume.
