Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply a long-sized and heavily weighed forging material to a forging material without requiring any supporting device by passing the forging material through a manipulator and gripping the same near its centroid. CONSTITUTION:A hollow shaft 13 having freely oscillatable gripping jaws 19 is provided to the gripping device frame 16 of the forging material 3 in the forging manipulator, and a hollow rod 22 is held freely movably forward and backward in said shaft. The rod 22 is retreated; at the same time, the jaws 19 of the material 3 are oscillated to open ingot holders 17, through which the material 3 is passed. In a suitable position, the holders 17 are closed to firmly hold the material 3. In this state, the material 3 is held suitably near its centroid and is supplied to a forging press. Revolving the material 3 during the working simply necessitates revolving the hollow shaft 13. The changing of the axial position is accomplished by the movement of the manipulator itself.
