Abstract
PURPOSE:To make rapid and accurate measurement possible with a small amount of gaseous sample without formation of any flame by disposing a pair of thermocouples of which one contact is coated with oxidation catalyst material, and displaying the calorific value corresponding to the output signal from the thermocouples owing to the oxidation reaction of the gaseous sample. CONSTITUTION:A thermocouple 2 has a pair of contacts consisting of the 1st contact 23 formed by joining the 1st, 2nd metallic wires 21, 22 consisting of copper constantan, etc., and the 2nd contact 25 formed by joining the 2nd, 3rd metallic wires 22, 24. Of these, the 1st contact 23 is coated over the entire surface by platinum 26 as an oxidation catalyst material, and this thermocouple 2 is supported by the supporting terminals 14, 15 provided to the wall surface of a vessel 12. Further a heater 3 is disposed in the vessel so as to heat the inside of the vessel at fixed temperatures of, for example, 100-150 deg.C. The occurrence of errors owing to external factors such as change in atmospheric temp. is obviated by disposing a pair of the contacts in the vessel in this way, and the accurate measurement is made extremely rapidly.
