Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain artificial caking coal of good quality, which has a high Roga index, under mild thermal reforming conditions, by a method wherein vacuum residue is deasphalted by extraction treatment with a solvent such as butane, pentane or hexane, and asphalt obtd. is thermally reformed.
CONSTITUTION: Vacuum residue is deasphalted by extraction treatment with butane (or a mixture composed mainly of butane), pentane (or a mixture composed mainly of pentane) or hexane (or a mixture composed mainly of hexane) to obtain asphalt. The asphalt is heat-treated at normal pressureW10kg/cm2G (pref. normal pressure) and at 350W420°C within 8hr, to obtain artificial caking coal.
EFFECT: The properties of the caking coal obtd. are not varied over a wide heat- treatment temperature range. There can be obtd. caking coal having excellent cokability.
