Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the timing of fuel injection, prevent an engine from damage and improve its durability, by operating a solenoid valve, provided in a passage through which fuel pressure in a pump chamber is relieved to the fuel pressure side of a feed pump, in accordance with intensity of a knocking action in the engine.
CONSTITUTION: A roller holder 2 concentrically arranged with a drive shaft 1 is linked to a timer piston 3 by a pin 4. A passage 9 for serving a relief action of fuel pressure in a fuel pressure pump chamber 6 to the suction side 7 of a feed pump is provided, in which a solenoid valve 8 operating in accordance with intensity of a knocking action is arranged. For large intensity of the knocking action, a more amount of pressure relief of fuel in the pump chamber can cause a more amount of timing retard for fuel injection to eliminate the knocking action. In this way, an engine can be prevented from damage or destruction not to cause a lowering of output power of the engine.
