Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the device to have high recording density, by providing the surface of the disc separator with a plurality of grooves parallel to the tangent of the external circumference of magnetic disc.
CONSTITUTION: Ten large and small grooves 22 about 0.1mm in depth D are provided around the information converter 24 on the surface 23 of disc separator. That is, the surface of the disc separator 23 constituting gas-bearing consists of a plurality of smooth curved surfaces split with the grooves, and the surface constituting the gas bearing near the information converter 24 is about halved in comparison with conventional ones. Thus, the film thickness of the gas bearing determined with the balance three forces among the force caused by the bending rigidness of the magnetic disc 13, centrifugal force and pressure distribution, can be reduced in comparison with conventional ones as shown in Figure. As a result, the distance between the information recording plane 18 of the desired magnetic disc 13-1 and the information converter 24 can be reduced to 1μ or less, which enables high density recording 3,000bpi or more.
