Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the property as a solvent for liquefying coal and the liquefying ratio of the coal, by denitrifying a middle and a heavy oil components obtained through the liquefaction of the coal, and using the components as a solvent for liquefying the coal.
CONSTITUTION: A middle and a heavy oil components having a boiling point ≥211°C obtained by liquefying coal are hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst rich in the denitrifying activity, e.g. Mo-Co-Al2O3 or W-Ni-Al2O3, to remove compounds containing nitrogen from the middle and the heavy oil components. The hydrogenated product is then used as a solvent for liquefying the coal.
EFFECT: The method eliminates the poisoning with the compounds containing nitrogen and improves the hydrogen donating property to the middle and the heavy oil components.
