PURPOSE:To enable a simple circuit to inform a fault to a calling station by interposing a switching part between a data terminal equipment and a modem, by detecting a call display signal from the modem when the data terminal is troubled, and by sending a continuous transmission request to the modem via the switching part. CONSTITUTION:Fault signal generator 2 is connected to data terminal equipment 1 via line 11, modem 3 to device 2 via line 12, and network controller 4 to this modem 3 via line 13, forming a data transmission system. In this system, switching part 20 is provided between lines 11 and 12 of fault signal generator 2, and this switching part 20 is changed over under the control of control circuit 23 connected to an interface circuit. In normal operation, terminal equipment 1 and modem 3 are connected via lines 11 and 12 and once terminal equipment 1 is troubled, terminal equipment 1 is disconnected from modem 3 to detect a call signal from modem 3 by detecting circuit 22, so that a continuous request signal is sent to controller 4 via modem 3.
