Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled dispersion of minute particle size and with excellent adhesion and water resistance, useful for an ink, a paint, a treating agent for paper, etc. which is essentially composed of a metal sulfonate gp.-contg. polyurethane resin, a water-soluble org. compd. and water.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane resin is prepared by compounding (A) a polyurethane resin obtd. from a metal sulfonate gp.-contg. noncrystalline polyester polyol (e.g. a copolymer by a polyester consisting of isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol with a metal salt of 5-sulfoisophthalic acid) and a polyisocyanate compd. (e.g., 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate) and contg. 5W1,000 equivalents/g metal sulfonate gp., (B) a water-soluble org. compd. (e.g., methanol) of b.p. 60W200°C and (C) water in a wt. ratio satisfying relations I and II. The aqueous dispersion can be additionally compounded. with a compd. selected from an amino resin, an epoxy compd. and a polyisocyanate compd., which is a crosslinking agent.
