Abstract

PURPOSE: A low-viscosity unsaturated polyester resin composition with a low vinyl monomer odor, prepared by mixing an unsaturated polyester prepared from 1,2- butanediol and phthalic anhydride with an unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred (100)pts.wt. unsaturated polyester alkyd prepared by polycondensing a glycol component consisting essentially or partially of 1,2-butanediol, a saturated polybasic acid component consisting essentially or partially of phthalic anhydride and an unsaturated polybasic acid component is mixed with 20W 55pts.wt. unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith. Because of its low viscosity, agitation during the production is easy till the end of the reaction. It is possible to obtain cured products having excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength. A smaller amount of a monomer than the conventional will suffice of prepare a composition with the same viscosity.
