Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)urea of the formula (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is aromatic group unsubstituted or substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxyl group or halogen atom; X is O or S.).
EXAMPLE: N-(2-Chloro-4-pyridyl)-N'-phenylurea.
USE: An improved cytokininlike activating agent having a promoting action, e.g. cellular fission, cellular elongation and cellular differentiation, and effective for promoting the growth of plants, increasing the yield, retarding the growth and preventing the aging. Particularly effective for the formation of shoot, growth promoting of vegetables, enlarging the leaf area of tobacco and weeding, and for the families Leguminosae, Solanaceae, Umbellifierae and Cucurbitaceae.
PROCESS: A 2-chloroaminopyridine is reacted with a phenyl isocyanate, or a 2-chloroisonicotinoyl azide is reacted with an aniline to give the compound of the formula.
