Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An N'-phenyl-N-methylurea derviative of formula I (A is H, methyl or methoxy; Y is O or S; X is 1W4C straight or branched alkylene chain; R is H, lower alkyl, or halogen; Z is H or halogen).
EXAMPLE: N'-3-[2-(5-Bromo-2-thienyl)ethoxy]phenyl-N-methoxy-N-methyl-urea.
USE: Herbicide having photosynthesis inhibiting activity. Remarkably effective to weeds, and nevertheless applicable without phytotoxicity to the important crops such as rice plant, wheat, corn, etc. It has especially high herbicidal selectivity to Korean lawn grass.
PROCESS: The titled compound of formula I is prepared by reacting a thiophene derivative of formula II (B is eliminable group) with a phenol derivative or a thiophenol derivative of formula III (Q is hydroxyl or mercapto).
