Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high purity cis-olefin, useful as a synthetic intermediate of sex pheromone of smaller tea tortrix, in high yield, by the stereo-selective hydrogenation of an alkyne in the presence of Lindler's catalyst and an amine.
CONSTITUTION: A cis-olefin of formula I is obtained by the hydrogenation of an alkyne of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is H or organic residue which can be a protecting group of hydroxyl group; n is 8W10) in the presence of Lindler's catalyst and an amine. An example of the Lindler's catalyst is the one comprising Pd, calcium carbonate and Sn. The amine can be selected widely from known amines such as methylamine, ethylamine, etc., and its amount is pref. aboit 0.005W 1mol per 1mol of the alkyne of formula I.
