Abstract

PURPOSE: To avoid defects of an activated layer of a membrane due to nonuniformity of a fibrous layer by a method wherein polypropylene is used as a porous base material of the membranous material having an ultrafilter membrane formed thereon by coating, and a nonwoven fabric of polysulfone resin is used as the material for the membrane.
CONSTITUTION: A nonwoven fabric of polyester poorer than the polypropylene nonwoven fabric in affinity for solutions is laminated on the polypropylene nonwoven fabric, to produce a double-layer structure facilitating the preparation of a membrane layer. For instance, in one working example, a solution of 30pts. of polyether sulfone and 70pts. of N, N-dimethylacetamide is coated on the inside surface of the tubular polypropylene nonwoven fabric (having an inside diameter of 24.3mm, a thickness of 0.23mm and a weight of 7.6g/m) in a coated thickness of 300μ, is then left to stand for 30min and gelled in water. When an aqueous solution of blue dextran is caused to permeate through the membrane under a pressure of 2kg/cm2, the inside surface of the membrane is devoid of dyed marks due to defects thereof and the membrane showed a favorable performance as the ultrafilter membrane.
