Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the removal of chips from a through hole in a crankshaft having a plurality of closed spaces in which lubricating oil is stored by a method wherein a connecting pipe is inserted into cmparatively large through holes which pierce adjacent closed spaces. CONSTITUTION:The crankshaft is provided wtih lubricating oil supply mechanisms 6 on the bearings to journals 1 and the respective bearing parts 5 of connecting rods to crank pins 3. In manufacture of this supply mechanism 6, first, a hollow metallic core 7 having a cocoon shape as a whole is set in a mold holding a rodlike body 7' on both its ends. Then, after casting, the projecting ends of the rodlike bodies 7' are cut off and through holes 8 of comparatively large diameter are made with a drill in order to connect adjacent closed spaces A formed by cores 7 to remove the chips through these large diameter through holes 8. After that, pipes 9 having small holes (b) are inserted finally when the through holes 8 are closed.
